Student Privacy

Student Privacy and Records

ISL complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and all pertinent regulations, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Louisiana Acts 837 and 677, and the rules of the Louisiana State Department of Education. All student educational records are collected, maintained, inspected, disseminated, and destroyed pursuant to these federal and state regulations.

FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, is a federal law that gives parents and students certain rights with respect to a student’s educational records. These rights include the right to access, inspect, and request correction of those records. Under FERPA, certain types of information (such as information that may appear in a school directory, participation in sports or activities, dates of attendance at school, degrees or awards received, or most recent previous school attended) may be disclosed without the expressed consent of a parent/guardian. Parents/guardians may opt out of the release of this information by writing a letter to the school data department, by selecting the appropriate (NO) option on the School Directory Information section of the annual online information update form, or by submitting an updated School Directory Information Form (available from your campus front office).

To request a copy of your child’s student records, please complete and sign the Request for Student Records and submit it at any of our campus locations. The first copy of a student’s record is free; all subsequent copies are $25 per set. Please allow ten business days for processing.

Parents or community members who wish to examine ISL’s contracts with outside vendors and service providers may do so in person at the Head of School’s office by making an appointment with Susan Chapman, who serves as our custodian of records. Parents with questions or complaints about student privacy should contact Ms. Chapman at schapman@isl-edu.org.
